Ordinal numbers (1-10)

Bonjour

Today we are going to learn the ordinal numbers in French from one to 10.

Ordinal numbers are used to show a relationship between things or to make a list.  English ordinal numbers are “first, second, third, etc.”

The number “first” in French has to agree in gender:

	SINGULAR	PLURAL
MALE	PREMIER (FIRST)	PREMIERS (FIRST)
FEMALE	PREMIÈRE (FIRST)	PREMIÈRES (FIRST)

For the rest of the numbers you don’t have to agree with the genre.  

FRENCH	ENGLISH
DEUXIÈME	SECOND
TROISIÈME	THIRD
QUATRIÈME	FOURTH
CINQUIÈME	FIFTH
SIXIÈME	SIXTH
SEPTIÈME	SEVENTH
HUITIÈME	EIGHTH
NEUVIÈME	NINTH
DIXIÈME	TENTH

For the plural forms just add an s
