L'adjectif


Salut!

Today we are going to start studying the French adjectives.

As in English, adjectives in French are used with the nouns to describe the subject.  We place the adjective after the noun.

Femile nouns usually are formed adding an –e to the male adjective:

Male
Female
English
Étroit
Étroite
Tight
Grand
Grande
Big
Haut
Haute
Tall
Intelligent
Intelligente
Intelligent


However, if the male adjective already ends with an –e, you don’t have to modify the female form

French Adjectives must be written in a plural form, adding an s to the singular to correspond with the number of the subject

UN HOMME INTELLIGENT
AN INTELLIGENT MAN

DES HOMMES INTELLIGENT
SOME INTELLIGENT MEN

LA PETITE VOITURE
THE LITTLE CAR

LES PETITES VOITURES
THE LITTLE CARS


As it happen with the nouns, there are a few exceptions where the plural don’t end with an s

  Pero, al igual que ocurría con los sustantivos, hay algunas excepciones dependiendo de la terminación del masculino singular:
