Hi everyone
Today we are going to start studying the defined articles in French.
As you know in English we just have an article both for male, female singular or plural nouns: The.
However in French this is a little bit more complex so we better start studying the singular articles
Singular
Le
|
Male
|
La
|
Female
|
L’
|
Male/Female starting with vowel
|
Now you know when to use an article for male or female nouns. The only problem is to know when a noun is male or female. You can use your intuition. Most of the male/ female nouns in French are also that way in English but it's not only like that:
La femme
(The woman)
But...
La voiture
(The Car)
Le téléphone
(The telephone)
For the nouns starting with a vowel you just need to use L' no matter if it's a male or female noun:
L'arbre
(The tree)
L'étudiant
(The student)
L'île
(The island)
Plural
To make the plural form of the article you just need to remember a single article
Les
|
Male/Female
|
Les étudiants
(The students)
Les îles
(The islands)
