Bon jour


Today we are going to study how do you say Hi and Good bye in French.


Take a look at the following voabulary

Salutation (French)	Translation
Salut (informal)	Hi
Bonjour	Good morning/ Good afternoon
Bonne journée	Good day (farewell)
Bon soir	Good evening/ night (greeting)
Bonne nuit	Good night (farewell)
Bonne soirée	Good evening/ night (farewell)

As you can see, we use Bon jour both to say Good morning or good afternoon and Bon soir to greet someone in the middle of the night. 


You can also use salut to say hi at no matter what time of the day but you have to remember that this is only accepted on an informal speech.
