When referring to parts of the body in French, you don't use a possessive adjective like you do in English.

In English we say things like ''my hand" or "my arm," but in French, a reflexive verb is used instead:

Je me brosse les dents
=
I am brushing my teeth

Je me lave les mains.
=
I am washing my hands.

If translated literally, these sentences say something like "I brush the teeth of myself," so you can't translate literally.
